The Australian government offers a General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa program designed to attract skilled professionals to Australia. Visa applicants must be proven skilled professionals and tradespersons with relevant qualifications and/or work experience who can make an immediate positive impact on the Australian economy. Included in this program are permanent residency (migration) visas with unrestricted work rights.
The 1 July 2012 Skill Select model and GSM Points Test is a transparent and objective selection process, awarding points to the skills and attributes considered to be in need in Australia. It is designed to select the best and brightest skilled migrants who will make the optimum economic contribution to Australia and does not give undue weight to any one factor and recognises a broader range of skills and attributes.
