Temporary Work (Skilled) Subclass 457 Visa
The Temporary Work (Skilled) Subclass 457 Visa, formerly known as the Business (Long-Stay) Subclass 457 temporary residence visa allows an Australian employer unable to fill a position(s) from the local market to sponsor overseas personnel. It is intended for key positions such as executives, managers or specialists and for other skilled positions a suitably qualified Australian citizen or permanent resident is not readily available to fill. This visa allows a temporary business entrant to stay in Australia for up to 4 years.
There are 3 separate stages in seeking to employ an overseas temporary business entrant.
1. Sponsorship
The employer must apply to be approved as a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS). This involves an assessment of, amongst other things, the financial standing of the business, the proposed benefit to Australia from recruiting overseas personnel, and the commitment to training Australian citizens and permanent residents.
2. Nomination
The employer must nominate the position to be filled which must be gazette as being able to be filled by overseas staff. The Company must offer a base salary commensurate with market rates in Australia and the Nominee must possess a relevant qualification, skills and equivalent industry experience.
The proposed overseas employee must apply for a visa. The application is assessed to determine if the visa applicant has the qualifications, skills and work experience required for the nominated position. In addition, the applicant must demonstrate that they meet health and character requirements. Dependent family members (typically spouse and children under 18 years of age) can be included in the visa application for the same cost. This application may be lodged either in Australia or overseas. The visa applicants may themselves be in Australia or overseas.

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Subclass 186 Visa and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Subclass 187 Visa
Increasingly overseas employees in Australia are keen to secure permanent residency. Often the easiest route is through employer permanent residency sponsorship under the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) Visa. If the business is located in what DIAC consider a "Regional" location then the RSMS Subclass 187 Visa may also be an option.
MY AUSTRALIAN VISA.com has extensive experience in advising and assisting employers and employees wanting to convert to permanent residency. Please check our Testimonial pages for examples.

Relocation and Settlement Services
Did you know that according to ORC Worldwide’s 2008 Worldwide Survey of International Assignment Polices and Practices, only 6% of respondents said the company handled their repatriation process “very well”. That handling (or lack of handling) can result in the loss of repatriated employees.
In the ORC’s survey 22% of overall respondents replied that the turnover of repatriated employees was higher in the two years following a repatriation compared to employees who had not gone on an international assignment. A lot of time the employer forgets about the spouse when transferring a family as it is the spouse that actually needs the support not the employee.
